A woman is fighting for her life while a gunman is on the loose after a shooting early Sunday morning.
Police say it started with a dispute between two small groups at the intersection of Suder and Mayo. According to police, the dispute appeared to be over, and the groups were leaving the scene. That’s when somebody pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots.
Latrease Thompson, 32, was shot in the chest. She was taken to Mercy Saint Vincent Medical Center in critical condition.
Two bullets pierced James Woods’ house during the shooting, and one shattered his car window. “[I] came out to see what was [happening], didn’t see anything, went back inside the house. Few minutes later, somebody was knocking on my back door saying, ‘Mr. Woods, Mr. Woods, she’s been shot,” remembers Woods.
Gary Ruffier and his wife also heard the shots. They ran across the street to help Thompson after she was shot. “Tried giving her assistance, we got her a towel. My sister-in-law held the towel on her chest till police got here,” he said. “Scary. She wasn’t breathing.”
Latrease Thompson remains in Saint V’s tonight in critical condition. Currently, police don’t have any suspects. If you any information about the shooting, contact Crime Stopper at 419-255-1111
